But what if you could sip a delicious tea concocted with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients? Discover some fun recipes to try that could potentially quench your thirst for a beautiful, blemish-free complexion.

1. Frothy Matcha Latte

Healthy Skin Drink - Frothy Matcha Latte | Skintelligence

Love green tea lattes? You’re onto something! Matcha tea is more concentrated in both caffeine and antioxidants than green tea because the whole leaf is used (versus just being steeped).

According to Health, matcha is rich in antioxidants called polyphenols, which has been linked to health benefits like blood sugar regulation and reduced blood pressure reduction. Ingesting antioxidants helps reduce signs of inflammation from the inside out, and matcha has 137 times more antioxidants than regular green tea. This crowd-pleaser also includes epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) to help counteract the sebum oxidation that occurs before acne forms.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 tsp pure culinary-grade matcha powder

  • 1 cup of hot water

  • ½ cup of steamed milk

  • Matcha whisk (worth the investment for cafe-worthy concoctions!)

  • 1 small bowl

Steps:

  1. Pour a small amount of hot water into the bowl

  2. Sift matcha powder in (or more if you prefer a stronger taste)

  3. Whisk vigorously from side to side to evenly disperse the powder. This helps the drink froth up.

  4. Add more steamed milk to complete your latte!

2. Apple Cider Vinegar with Candied Lemon Rind

Flawless Skin Drink - Apple Cider Vinegar with Candied Lemon Rind | Skintelligence

Apple cider vinegar has long been revered both as a drink and in skincare (it’s an astringent and can be used as a toner!). It has even been touted as a superdrink for weight loss! A study published in January 2014 in Biomolecules & Therapeutics stated that polysaccharide, the starch that occurs naturally in apples, can help to improve your skin’s barrier and keep acne at bay.

However, many may find the taste of apple cider vinegar tough to stomach despite its numerous benefits. Here’s a super-simple recipe that combines two zesty ingredients—easy on the stomach and delicious at the same time!

What you’ll need:

  • 1 cup of warm.cold water

  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 1 tbsp honey

  • 2 strips of ¼ inch candied lemon rinds

Steps:

  1. Combine apple cider vinegar and water in a glass

  2. Add honey and stir well

  3. Garnish with lemon rinds and enjoy!

Bonus! Lemon rinds recipe:

  1. Combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a microwave-safe bowl

  2. Microwave at HIGH for 2 minutes, stir in lemon rind

  3. Microwave at HIGH for 3 minutes, stir every minute

  4. Spread remaining ½ cup sugar on a parchment-lined baking sheet, remove lemon rind from sugar syrup and place on baking sheet. Toss well.

  5. Remove rinds from sugar and refrigerate overnight in an airtight container

3. Golden Turmeric Cinnamon Milk Tea

Glowing Skin Drink - Golden Turmeric Cinnamon Milk Tea | Skintelligence

Commonly found in curries (cue the vibrant orangey hue!), turmeric is a power food that features antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties thanks to its protective active compound, curcumin. Besides being a natural topical remedy for acne, you can improve skin conditions like eczema and acne by having it as a gorgeous milk tea!

Tip to balance out its naturally bitter notes? Add the sweet, savoury taste of cinnamon—it even boasts the same antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties as turmeric!

What you’ll need:

  • 1 tsp of dried turmeric powder

  • ½ cup of an unsweetened milk

  • 1 cup of hot water

  • 1 tpsn of honey

  • 1 cinnamon stick or ½ tsp of cinnamon powder

  • 1 pinch of ground black pepper

Steps:

  1. Pour turmeric powder in a mug and add hot water. Stir well.

  2. Add milk, place the cinnamon stick or powder into the mug and stir. If using a stick, let it steep for 5 minutes.

  3. Add honey and sprinkle black pepper (it helps the absorption of curcumin!)

Optional: sprinkle a heaping of chia seeds on top for an extra dose of fibre and antioxidants!

4. Kombucha Boba Tea

Here’s a real creative way to enjoy your boba tea—sans excessive sugar!
